What is an urgent treatment centre?

An Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) provides care and treatment for illnesses and injuries that are not life or limb-threatening but require urgent attention. Examples of this include a suspected broken arm, minor burn or scald, or a cut that needs stitches.

Under either option, both hospitals would have UTC open 24 hours a day, 265 days of the year, which would be staffed by highly skilled senior health professionals who are specifically trained to deliver urgent care for adults and children.  If the specialist emergency care hospital was located at Sutton there would be an additional UTC at Sutton.
