What is a public consultation and why did we need one?

Commissioners are required by law to involve the public when considering making significant changes to the provision of NHS healthcare. This is done through a formal public consultation process. We are proposing to make changes to the hospital services provided at Epsom and St Helier hospitals so it is important that we seek the views of people across Surrey Downs, Sutton and Merton as well as nearby areas. Any alternative proposals or suggestions put forward as part of the consultation would, of course, be conscientiously taken into account and carefully considered as part of the process.
